Preschool Curriculum & Philosophy
Active Academy combines hands-on academics, play-based learning, movement, and social development to help children grow toward kindergarten readiness with confidence.
Children Learn Best Through Active Play
Preschoolers learn by exploring, moving, asking questions, practicing routines, and interacting with teachers and peers. Active Academy is designed to support the whole child through academic learning, movement, creativity, independence, and social-emotional growth.
Circle Time Curriculum
Learning That Connects to Everyday Life
Our daily circle time builds the foundational knowledge children use both in the classroom and at home. Through music, movement, conversation, and American Sign Language (ASL), children learn concepts in fun, engaging ways while understanding how they apply in the real world.
Children Explore:
Days of the week and months of the year
Weather and seasons
Telling time & Calendar Skills
Coins and money
Colors and shapes
Songs, movement, and ASL
Reading Curriculum
Building Lifelong Readers
Reading at Active Academy is about much more than learning letters and sounds. We help children become confident, thoughtful readers who enjoy books and understand what they read.
Each week, students explore a featured story alongside a companion book that reinforces the same theme and vocabulary. Together, these texts help children make connections, build comprehension, and strengthen critical thinking.
What Students Learn:
Story sequencing and comprehension
Characters, setting, problem, and solution
Making predictions and asking questions
Vocabulary development
Comparing and connecting multiple stories
Sharing ideas and supporting their thinking
Writing Curriculum
Building Strong Writers from the Ground Up
Great handwriting starts with more than holding a pencil. Our writing curriculum develops both the fine motor skills and physical strength children need to become confident, successful writers.
Students practice handwriting, letter formation, and proper pencil grip through engaging classroom activities while strengthening the muscles needed for writing every day.
Writing Skills Include:
Proper pencil grip
Letter formation
Handwriting practice
Fine motor development
Hand-eye coordination
Confidence in written expression
Math Curriculum
Building Confident Problem Solvers
Our preschool math curriculum makes learning math fun through hands-on exploration, purposeful play, and real-world experiences. Children build a strong understanding of early math concepts using manipulatives, games, movement, and sensory activities that make learning meaningful and memorable.

Number recognition and counting
Patterns and sequencing
Sorting and classifying
Measurement and comparison
Early addition and subtraction concepts
Problem-solving and critical thinking
Where Movement Supports Learning
Movement helps preschoolers practice listening, following routines, building body awareness, self-regulation, coordination, confidence, and persistence.
At Active Academy, physical activity is not separate from learning. It is part of how children build readiness for the classroom and the world around them.
