FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is tumbling right for my child if they only want to work on floor skills?
Yes. Tumbling is a great fit for kids who want to focus on skills like cartwheels, roundoffs, walkovers, handsprings, and flips without rotating through every gymnastics event. It gives students a focused way to build strength, technique, body control, and confidence on the floor.
Does my child need previous gymnastics or cheer experience?
Not necessarily. Some students come from gymnastics, cheer, dance, or ninja, while others are brand new to tumbling. Coaches help each child start at the right level so they can build safely from the fundamentals before moving into more advanced skills.
How do you know which tumbling level is right for my child?
Placement is based on current skills, strength, control, and safety readiness — not just age. If your child is new, they’ll usually begin with foundational tumbling skills. If they already have experience, the DeVeau’s team can help determine the best class fit.
My child wants to learn a back handspring. How long will that take?
Every child progresses at a different pace. A back handspring requires more than just bravery — students need strength, flexibility, body awareness, proper technique, and safe landing mechanics. Coaches will help your child work toward bigger skills step by step instead of rushing before they’re ready.
How do coaches keep tumbling safe?
Safety starts with proper progressions. Students learn the building-block skills first, then gradually move toward more advanced tumbling as their strength, technique, and confidence grow. Coaches use drills, spotting, repetition, and clear instruction to help students learn skills the right way.
Can tumbling help with cheer, dance, or other sports?
Yes. Tumbling can be a strong complement to cheer, dance, gymnastics, ninja, and other athletic activities. It helps students build power, coordination, flexibility, air awareness, and confidence — skills that carry over into many sports and performance settings.
