FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How does my child join a DeVeau's team?

The first step is attending a team evaluation or tryout. During the evaluation, our coaching staff assesses your child's current skills, strength, and readiness to determine the program and level that's the best fit. Throughout the year, we may also invite recreational athletes to be evaluated if we believe they're ready for team.

Does my child need prior competition experience?

No! While some athletes come to us with previous competitive experience, many begin their competitive journey right here at DeVeau's. Our coaches evaluate each athlete based on their current abilities and potential—not whether they've competed before.

What if my child is not ready for team yet?

That's completely okay! Many athletes continue building skills in our recreational classes before joining a team. Our coaches will help guide your child's progress and let you know when they're ready to take the next step.

How are team placements determined?

Team placements are based on each athlete's current skill level, strength, flexibility, coachability, work ethic, and overall readiness for competition. Our goal is to place every athlete where they'll be challenged, supported, and set up for long-term success.

Are team programs a bigger commitment than classes?

Yes. Competitive team athletes typically attend multiple practices each week and participate in competitions throughout the season. Team programs require a greater time and financial commitment than recreational classes, but they also provide incredible opportunities for skill development, goal setting, teamwork, and lifelong friendships.

Where can I find team costs and schedules?

Team handbooks with program details, practice schedules, tuition, and estimated competition costs are available during tryouts and evaluations. If you'd like more information before then, we'd be happy to help. Simply email us at info@deveaus.com, and a member of our team will answer your questions and help you find the program that's the best fit for your athlete.
