It teaches cognitive skills, enhances physical abilities, creates new vocabulary, social skills and literacy skills. Through play these become engrained in their everyday lives making them see every opportunity as a learning or teaching one. Play is healthy not just for the physical aspect but for the social and emotional as well.
Play is always more than meets the eye. It can be simple or complex. I am constantly reminding myself how play and learning go hand-in-hand. It’s a child’s context for learning. It reinforces their learning in multiple areas during play. It gives them a place and a time for learning that cannot be achieved through completing a worksheet.”
